“As soon as we arrived, it was great to be greeted by a smiling Maria at the airport. It was so easy as Maria had organised everything and made lots of suggestions of what to do and see and what walks to take nearby the retreat to make our weekend very special.
The ambiance and decor of the retreat is very relaxing and cosy. Very stylish yet rustic. There is lots of space to explore and do your own thing, whether it is to read a book in the sitting room or practice yoga in the studio, wander in the garden or village, or cosy up by the huge open fire in the kitchen. One thing I really liked was being able to pamper yourself in the gorgeous French-style bath with Neal’s Yard products.
The meals were fantastic – all home made and delicious. Maria is very health conscious and cooks meals that are tasty and wholesome, all locally bought and often organic. The breakfast was very filling and consisted of homemade granola with different types of milks and croissants. All of the pastry and bread were made by a local baker and the vegetables picked by neighbours – which added to the country feel.
The location is ideal for a relaxing weekend away and there are lots of beautiful little villages nearby that I would recommend visiting. My favourites were Saint-Loup-Sur-Thouet (especially the Chateau De Saint-Loup) and the historic quarter of Parthenay- all very close to the retreat and very quaint.
I was a beginner to Yoga, with only a few classes under my belt before going, but Maria caters to all abilities and I really enjoyed the morning Sun Salutation yoga as well as the evening Yoga Nidra before going to sleep, as it is not something I would normally do at home. It is obvious that Maria is a very knowledgeable and experienced instructor. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable girly weekend away that mixed sightseeing and pampering sessions with eating good food and yoga – perfect for your natural wellbeing and happiness.”
